We work with you to create a tailor made course focused on the content that is most relevant to your industry and business needs.

Claire Caple – Microsoft 365 Adoption & Change Manager – Rennie Grove Peace

Claire Caple from Rennie Grove Hospital

“Alpesh was very knowledgeable, and I was confident in his training from the start.

He was enthusiastic and excited to help us get to know the software.

Alpesh gave us useful tips, everyone was comfortable and asked questions throughout.

We all took away ideas and felt able to start using Power BI immediately.”

The Client:

Rennie Grove Peace Hospice (Rennie Grove Peace) is a palliative care and bereavement support charity working in Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire.

It was formed from the merger of Rennie Grove Hospice Care and Peace Hospice Care in 2022 and employs approximately 300 people across a range of functions spanning from fundraising and training to palliative care.

The Problem:

Rennie Grove Peace wanted to upgrade its business analytics capability and make better use of their data across the organisation.

Having decided that Power BI would be the best solution, team members from their fundraising, marketing, clinical reporting and IT teams wanted to learn how to use Power BI to analyse and present their data.

The Solution:

Rennie Grove Peace ultimately decided that a private Power BI course at their offices would meet their needs best.

Doing this was more cost-effective than attending public courses, saved on staff travel time and allowed the training to be focused on their exact requirements.

The Outcome:

A private one-day introduction to Power BI course was run at Rennie Grove Peace’s offices.

Everyone left having learned a huge amount about Power BI and ready to start putting it into practice.

After the course, each attendee was tasked with sharing what they learned with their department to broaden the organisation’s understanding of Power BI.

Our Power BI introduction training course is for complete beginners, you do not need any previous experience with Power BI to attend.

It is designed for people who will be:

  1. Using complex dashboards and reports which have been prepared by other analysts
  2. Creating simple data visualisations from scratch.

  1. Connect to a range of data sources using Power BI
  2. Prepare and transform your data.
  3. Create data visualisations like KPIs and charts.
  4. Publish reports that you have crated via the web or PDF.

This course gives you a high-level overview of Power BI and introduces basic best practices and its drag and drop functionality.

Our advanced training course is for people who are already Power BI users and want to develop their skills further.

It is designed for people who will be creating complex dashboards and reports from scratch.

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Customise a report.
  2. Use the query editor to interrogate the data in a data model, data relationships and hierarchies.
  3. Build interactivereports like drill-through reports and relative date reports.
  4. Creating a wide variety of compelling visualisations including maps, bullet and scatter charts.
  5. Set security and data permissions, and control when your data is updated.

We provide certificates of completion to everyone who completes one of our Microsoft Power BI programmes.

Our training is designed to prepare your staff for certification as an MCSA in BI Reporting, which is achieved by passing these two exams:

  • 70-778 Analyzing and Visualizing Data with Power BI
  • 70-779 Analyzing and Visualizing Data with Microsoft Excel

Please note, the actual exams will need to be organised separately, at an exam centre, and cost approximately £130, plus VAT.

You do not need to be an advanced Power BI user to attend our introduction to DAX course.

The pre-requisite to attend is that you are comfortable using Power BI and understand it to at least the level that you would if you had attended our Introduction course.

This course covers creating basic DAX formulas using M langugage.

Power BI is Microsoft’s data analytics and business intelligence platform.

It allows you to connect to hundreds of data sources, prepare data, and create beautiful, interactive reports and dashboards converting raw data into easily actionable insights.

It was launched in 2014 and its main competitors are data tools like Tableau, Google Data Studio and Qlik.

It comes in a range of versions from Power BI Desktop which is free through to Power BI Premium which is a full enterprise business intelligence solution hosted in the cloud.

Microsoft Excel is widely used as a general purpose tool for all sorts of calculations and simple data management.

Power BI is a business intelligence platform designed specifically for data analytics and visualisation for large volumes of data which Excel could not handle. It allows users to very quickly and simply share data and business insights across their organisation.

Power BI Desktop:

Power BI Desktop (free) gives you access to Power BI’s basic features and is where you create data models and carry out data cleansing and analysis. It is also how you access the full cloud-based version of Power BI – Power BI Service – if you are a subscriber.

Power BI Pro:

Power BI is the full version of Power BI. It includes the ability to build and share dashboards and reports that you have built which you can’t with BI Desktop.

Power BI Service or Premium:

Power BI Service is designed for large organisations. It gives your company access to its own dedicated capacity and allows for analysis of very large scale datasets.

Power BI toolkit is comprised of several key components:

1. Power Query: A data extraction and transformation tool used to connect to, clean, and shape data in Power BI Desktop.
2. Power Pivot: An in-memory data modeling component that allows for the creation of relationships between data tables.
3. Power BI Desktop: A free tool for building for analysing your data, building data models and designing reports.
4. Power BI Service: A cloud-based service for publishing, sharing (inc via mobile app) and collaborating on reports and dashboards.
5. DAX (Data Analysis Expressions): A formula language with a library of functions and operators. It allows you to create custom calculations, measures and calculated columns, and usee complex logic to derive deeper insights.

Power BI can connect to a wide variety of data sources, including Microsoft Fabric, Excel files, SQL Server databases, SharePoint lists, and online services like Google Analytics and Salesforce allowing you to bring all your data together in one place.

A Power BI report is a multi-page collection of visualisations and data created from a single dataset.

A dashboard is a single-page interface that provides a high-level overview of key metrics, with visualisations, drawn from multiple reports.

Please come wearing whatever your are comfortable in, we do not have a dress code.

Our online training is designed to be as similar to a classroom as possible.

We use Zoom for our courses and the instructor is there throughout to answer questions and lead you through the course as they would in a physical course.

We cap our classes at 6 people for Power BI to ensure you get plenty of time to ask questions.
